Six Major Generals promoted as Lt Generals: DG ISPR

Major Asim announces Lt General Rizwan Akhtar appointed DG ISI
RAWALPINDI – The Pakistan Army on Monday promoted six Major Generals to the rank of Lieutenant Generals. The Major Generals who got the three Stars promotions were Maj Gens Rizwan Akhtar, Hilal Hussain, Ghayur Mahmood, Nazir Butt, Navid Mukhtar and Hidayat Ur Rehman.

The newly promoted Lt General Rizwan Akhtar has been posted as DG ISI, Lt General Hidayatur Rehman will be Corps Commander Peshawar; Lt General Navid Mukhtar, Corps Commander Karachi, Lt General Hilal Hussain,Corps Commander Mangla, Lt General Ghayur Mahmood, Corps Commander Gujranwala and Lt General Nazir Butt, C&IT.

The announcement was made by Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major Asim Bajwa on Twitter. The new Director General ISI, General Rizwan was earlier posted as Director General Rangers in Sindh and also served as General officer commanding (GOC) in militancy hit Waziristan. General Rizwan and Gen Naveed Mukhtar were close contenders due to their experience of intelligence.

The decision by the military headquarters had come at a time when a joint operation by police and Rangers against terrorists and criminal elements in Karachi had been in its full swing. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had raised serious reservations against the operation in which, they had said, dozens of the MQM workers and sympathisers had fallen victim to extrajudicial killings.

23 more terrorists killed in NWA air offensive




RAWALPINDI: Twenty three more terrorists were taken out as the security forces carried out aerial strikes in North Waziristan Agency as part of the ongoing military offensive Zarb-e-Azb.

According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release, the militant hideouts were targeted in Ghulam Khan area of Bandigar in militancy-infested tribal region of Pakistan.

Operation Zarb-e-Azb was launched on June 15 against the terrorists in NWA in the wake of failure of peace talks between the government and militants of proscribed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

 

Pak Army’s trainee aircraft crashes near Quetta
 





ZIARAT: A training aircraft of the Pakistan Army was destroyed as it crashed in Ziarat, a district of Balochistan.

Both the pilots in the aircraft were taken to Quetta where they are in critical condition.

According to security sources, an aircraft of Pakistan Army aviation during a training flight, crashed 40 kilometers from Quetta.

As a result of the crash both the pilots, Captain Hasnain and Captain Umer were badly injured and were initially taken to Ziarat district hospital for medical treatment and later shifted to combine military hospital Quetta through helicopter.

Both pilots have been admitted to the ICU.
